Friday... full of good cheer

Identity crisis?

I feel so privileged with this little thing that we have going, where I share my thoughts with you and the wonderful circle comes right back to me via the letters that you write back.

Some of the questions and observations you guys make really make my day and have me in fits of laughter.

One such letter from someone who signs herself "beauty with brains" really caught my eye. Ms BwB asks, "While we were trying to figure out how you actually looked, my sister wondered: are you actually a guy? Is that actually your pic? Are you G*Nice or G*Nicia??" That kind of caught me by surprise, I must say. I mean, I tell you guys about my obsession with football and my love of getting beaten and bruised while boxing with my mates – but still this seems to leave a question in some of the imaginative minds out there.

I was trying to think what it might be that creates that impression.

I don't take it as a negative by the way, I was kind of flattered in a strange way. Maybe it's because I can talk at length about seemingly anything which is more of a female trait I guess… or because I am open about my love of Love and the poetry of the good things out there in the big, bad world. I can only speculate as to what it might be, maybe there are others out there who want to share their opinions.

I find it amusing that if the picture that you know me by is indeed a fake, don't you think I would have chosen something a bit more impressive? I have an idea, why don't we run a competition, where you the readers send in your artistic impressions of what you think I really look like? It can be photo-collages, scribbles or even clay models. I will see if our friends at Friday that put all this together week by week can feature them. The funniest ones can be used to replace the present picture that even I am bored of… I mean how long can a shaved monkey sit in front of a MacBook that's not even turned on! As a grand prize, the person that we judge to be the best in show, will win a lunch date with me as my treat. How does that sound?

Back to the question, I like to think that if a man actually has the ability to be in touch with his feminine side that has to be a positive. For me, it's very important that a man plays his role in life (whatever that means?) but it's a fantastic attribute to have an insight into the other world of sugar and spice and all things nice.

I guess that I have an understanding of the female psyche because I have so many close friends who are girls and beyond that I really love to shoot the breeze with girls as much as guys because in a lot of ways I find those interactions much more stimulating.

When I was younger I used to think that the key to this magic kingdom was to be found by reading all the girls' magazines on the sly to get the inside track. This turned out to be pretty unsuccessful as all I seemed to learn was everything about lipstick trends and cellulite, and that generally men are a pain!

If I know anything, it's that it's essential to be a good listener and to be willing to share your thoughts, opinions and feelings. I mean who wants to be like Madonna's ex-husband, branded as "an emotionally stunted Englishman!" by the 'material girl'?

As always, I eagerly await your thoughts and opinions and hopefully some pictures!
