Dubai: Abid Chaudhury continued to torment the bowlers in the second edition of the Mammoths Cricket League with a cracking 144 to steer Nad Al Sheba to a 77-run win over Shindagha Mammoths at the Sevens ground over the weekend.
Coming in at No. 4 when his team was in trouble, Abid took charge of the situation and continued his free-flowing game to hit sixes and fours at will.
When he did finally depart after scoring a match-winning 144 off 75 balls, including eight towering sixes and 14 boundaries, he had already taken the match away from Shindagha with NAS posting 223 for 6 in 25 overs.
Joshil Sukhani, who scored 24 towards the end of NAS innings, returned to haunt Shindagha with the ball by removing both openers and two lower-order batsmen to finish with figures of four for 27.
Harish Pai (40), Vinod Nair (23) and A.K. Satish (23) contributed in Shindagha’s losing cause.
In another match Zabeel Mammoths outplayed Jumeirah Mammoths by nine wickets. Put in to bat, Jumeirah posted 170 for 5 with Vijay Mehra (56) top-scoring for his side, while Biju Nair and Ambey Parwatkar helped themselves to 32 and 30 runs respectively.
But Vinay Tolani and Ranjeet Chavan made light work of the target by hitting half centuries. Ranjeet struck six fours and a six for his 58 from 50 balls while man of the match Vinay remained unbeaten on 70 off 54. Mohammad Ibtisham chipped in with an unbeaten 33 as Zabeel surpassed the target in 20.5 overs for the loss of only one wicket.
Ranjeet Chavan was also instrumental in guiding Zabeel to a seven-wicket win over Shindagha the week before. He first claimed two wickets as Shindagha bowled Zabeel for a paltry 87 and then hit 22 unbeaten runs to win the man of the match award.
