Sharjah: A Pakistani man who caught a thief who snatched a gold chain from the neck of an Asian woman was honoured by Sharjah Police on Sunday.
Abdulahad Abdulqayoum protected the victim and restrained the thief until the police arrived and took him into custody.
Colonel Dr Khalifa Kalander, director of the Comprehensive Police Stations at Sharjah Police, presented Abdulqayoum with a certificate of appreciation and a gift.
Col. Kalander said the award comes within the framework of activating a partnership between the community and Sharjah Police, as well as spreading the spirit of cooperation, in order to establish a secure and safe society.
Col. Kalander praised Abdulqayoum, calling him a role model for residents. He urged all community members to follow Abdulqayoum’s deed.
He also urged the public to report suspicious acts to 800151 or by sending a text message to 7999. The public can also call 999 for emergencies or 901 for non-emergencies.
