Dubai:  Ever have one of those embarrassing moments when you mistakenly sent a private message to all your colleagues?

Creators of the popular messaging tool WhatsApp have just activated a new feature that saves the day for users by removing texts that have been sent to the wrong recipient or group.

The “delete” function now works for residents in the UAE and it lets subscribers remove specific messages that have been sent to either a group or an individual chat.

The new feature is particularly useful if the message has been accidentally sent and contains embarrassing information.

However, users can only delete the message up to seven minutes after it’s sent.  Old messages or those that were sent more than seven minutes ago can’t be removed.

To activate the feature, users will need to update the application.

Here’s how it works:

1. Open WhatsApp and go to the chat containing the message you wish to delete.

2.Tap and hold the message. Optionally, select more messages to delete multiple messages at once.

3. Tap the delete icon on the menu.

4. Tap “delete for everyone.”

As soon as the message is removed, the recipient will get a notification.

The delete feature will not work if both the sender and the recipient are not using the latest version of WhatsApp for Android, iPhone or Windows Phone. The sender will also not get any notification if deleting for everyone was not successful.
