ABU DHABI: Four boys drowned in a big water pond in an Al Bahiya farm on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi on Sunday, Abu Dhabi Police confirmed.
The drowned children include one Emirati and three other Arab nationals.
A team of Abu Dhabi police pulled out the bodies of the children from the pond. Among children who died is one 12-year-old Emirati and three others from Arab nationalities, aged 10, 11 and 12 years old. Among the dead children two were brothers, the police said.
Abu Dhabi Police has expressed its deep grief on the incident of drowning of these children and paid its condolences to the victims’ families.
Al Rahba Police station in the directorate of external region received a call on Sunday, the third day of Eid Al Adha about the drowning of these four children in a pond inside a farm in Al Bahiya region, which is about 45 kilometres away from Abu Dhabi city.
Immediately, a specialised team of the police, including the emergency and public safety directorate, ambulance and rescue teams, was dispatched to the accident site, the police said.
Preliminary inspections of the site revealed that the pond, used for fish breeding was approximately 30 metres long and 10 metres wide, and the depth was about 1.5 metres.
After reaching the site, the police spent all its efforts to revive the children, then they were quickly transferred to the nearby hospital, the police said.
Abu Dhabi Police have urged parents to keep a close watch at such places where children are present, and ensure their safety without leaving them alone.
