Dubai: Registration has opened for the 2013 edition of the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon. A massive 20,000 runners took part in this year’s run and similar numbers are expected next year.

The marathon will take place on January 25, 2013 and will start and finish at the Burj Khalifa tower in Downtown Dubai.

The run will be held in four categories: 42, ten and three kilometres, with entry fees being $120 (Dh440), $60 and $15 respectively.

The race also offers a fourth category called the Corporate Challenge, for companies and organisations.

Runners can register themselves for the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2013 online at www.dubaimarathon.org.

Standard Chartered has also announced that it has signed a three-year deal to continue sponsoring the annual run until 2015.

The bank has been raising awareness through a global sustainability programme called Seeing is Believing, which is aimed at preventing avoidable blindness.

The bank has a goal to raise $100 million by the year 2020. So far, they have raised $50 million and have helped restore the sight of more than two-and-a-half million people worldwide.
