Last week’s series of earthquakes in Nepal that swept the lives of more than 4000 people is very unfortunate. It is a terrible shock not only to Nepal but to the rest of the world. The macabre earthquake paralysed normal life and has put the nation in utter chaos. It is sad to know that some heritage structures were also destroyed amid other structures. While Nepal was severely impacted by the catastrophe, India, too, suffered and lost many lives.

Nepal, the tiny Himalayan Kingdom is yet to revive from this trauma. It earns world sympathy and India was the first nation to extend its helping hand. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swift action to Nepal’s request is admirable. In addition, he told Indian Radio that: “India is with Nepal in this hour of crisis. Nepal’s pain is India’s pain.” It is really an encouraging statement and a solace to the affected people.

We are always challenged to live life, but there are ways to meet these challenges with our senses and faithfulness and in the long term, it will give us a peaceful and happy life. We are proud enough to have satellite systems, internet, emails, telecommunications, advance in medical science, construction technology, nuclear bombs, submarines, war planes and air planes for our comfort and security. But, can all these be achieved without the support of God? The answer is no. Our creator has given us senses, and we used it to invent the above mentioned systems. Likewise, we have to invent a system that can withstand such earthquakes, thus, safeguard us and our monuments.

Instead of enjoying this beautiful life that we have been given; we engage in war with each other, bicker with each other with one religion blaming the other, and one community insulting the other on the basis of faith. We should avoid hate and learn to respect each other as only then will we be able to live peacefully. Let us pray for all the earthquake victims and for the lost souls to rest in peace.
