I would like to highlight an issue I faced when dealing with Dubai First’s credit card, one that I have been using regularly for the past year. I have never defaulted and always paid on time. However, last month, I had to go to India on an emergency, and despite making arrangements, the payment was delayed as there was no network available in my village to do so.

Post my return, I paid last month’s full due amount and was shocked to see Dh249 as a late fee. I then spoke with the bank agents twice, but they were adamant about the fee and rude, as they told me that they could not take any requests with regard to late payment fees. I am going through a tough phase right now and cannot afford to pay an excess payment during such financial difficulties.

I request the bank to consider my past track record and the genuine reason that I had to go to India for an emergency, because of which, my payment was delayed. I want them to look into getting the charges reversed. I don’t want to become a defaulter, however, considering my situation, if the bank can reverse this late payment charge, I can make the payment and continue with the card or just cancel it. I request Gulf News to kindly look into my situation.
