According to Gulf News reader Neola Castelino, pedestrian crossings or speed breakers would help park-goers feel safer when crossing the street.

Dubai

There is an urgent need for a zebra crossing near the Pond Park located in Al Nahda.

This park is huge and is the only green area for many nearby buildings. This area has high-rise residential buildings and many children from the locality come to this park with their bicycles. Parents also use the park for a walk, with a few pushing strollers. Some children use hover boards and roller skates when heading to the park.

However, the main issue people face is when trying to reach the park. Since it is a residential area, the roads are usually busy, with all kinds of vehicles. Shockingly, there are no zebra crossings or any speed breakers on this road, making it really difficult for people to cross.

I had a bad experience when crossing the road, too. I tried to take my bicycle to the park, and found it to be very difficult to cross the road with a cycle. There are only two ways to do so — either risk your life and run quickly, or wait for a long time to cross the road.

Here, we cannot blame the vehicle owners, as there are no ‘slow down’ signs or traffic signals. I have taken so many pictures of how people struggle to cross the road with cycles and strollers — they are also risking their lives to get to the park.

This is a major issue and for people’s safety, there is an immediate need for an easy access to the park.
