A few years ago, I wrote a letter to Gulf News regarding the need for a pedestrian crossing or at least a speed breaker at the Buhaira Corniche in Sharjah. The Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are both located in the same building on this stretch of road and throughout the day, many people, especially mothers with their infants, keep visiting the two buildings for several services.

I have witnessed people jaywalking in this area every few minutes. A few metres before this stretch, is the Al Majaz Park and there is a curve in the road here, thus creating a blind spot. The vehicles travel at high speed on this road and so crossing the road is very risky.

As a responsible resident of this country for 45 years, I have made it a habit to bring the attention of the authorities to such issues. After my letter was published in Gulf News, I even sent a copy of it to the authorities. It took some time, but the issue has finally been resolved.

I appreciate the efforts of the authorities in Sharjah for constructing a speed breaker at this dangerous point. They are very considerate about the residents. I have taken up dozens of similar issues all over UAE to the relevant authorities, and I received a very good response from them. I further appreciate Gulf News for taking up this issue for the safety of the public.
