For the past few days, my daughter has been complaining of a blocked nose after returning from her visits to the neighbourhood park in Al Nasseriya, Sharjah.

I thought when she visited the park, she would be able to get some fresh air, socialise with other children and play on the swings.

But on repeated complaints from her, I decided to find out the reasons for this ailment.

I suspected that she had been playing in mud or that perhaps other children threw around dirt from the playground. However, I was surprised to see clouds of dust rising from the western side of the park, where there is a dirt road. Motorists who use that road are always in a hurry to reach home after a hard day’s work and they are the main cause of dust coming into the park.

All the trees in the park are covered with dust and children manage to fill up their lungs with impure air when they breathe while running around in the park.

I request that the concerned authorities either construct a proper road for residents of the area or block this road by putting up concrete barriers. Motorists would then be able to use alternative roads and stop our children from falling ill.
