Abu Dhabi

I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to a road with an overflowing sewer in Abu Dhabi’s Madinat Zayed area. This road leads to a sandy parking area outside a busy shopping complex. A lot of people visit the complex on Fridays for their shopping needs.

A few days ago, when I was visiting the area, I came across the scene (in the photograph). The large pool of stagnant water is a tragic sight. I was shocked to come across it. I remember that the same issue had occurred around three years ago, too. At that point, it was worse, and the road was flooded like a river. Either the sewage water dried up or the authorities fixed the problem and it was fine for the past few years. But, the problem has now returned.

This district is very popular for shopping and dining and becomes very crowded on weekends or on public holidays. There is always traffic congestion then. This road also leads to a few hotels in the area and thus probably damages the reputation of those organisations and the community as a whole. It’s hard for motorists to drive through the puddles of water. We’re concerned about the tyres of the vehicles being damaged or the vehicles getting stuck. I’ve seen motorists trying to drive through the puddles at high speeds, to avoid being stuck. The other concern is that the water will soon become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

I request the respected authorities to look into this issue and resolve it immediately. If the matter is not taken seriously, the situation might become worse.
