This is the story of Lucy Locket, the sweet cat that charms everyone who sees her but is tortured on a daily basis. Krasimira Yankova picked up Lucy Locket from Shaikh Zayed Road in Dubai due to a severe eye infection that made everyone think she was blind.

The kind woman took her to a hospital where they told her that she had tested positive for Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV). They couldn’t keep her so Lucy Locket was taken to another hospital with discounted rates from Feline Friends Dubai, where they kept her in isolation and treated her eyes.

She blossomed after one week, into a stunner. Then her doctor called and said that he had to remove her due to lack of space. The rescuers called many hospitals in Dubai asking for a space in the isolation section but every hospital was full. Then another kind friend, Emma Button, offered to help by giving discounted rates at a vet in Abu Dhabi, so Lucy Locket was taken to Abu Dhabi and now she lives in a small cage waiting for someone to step forward and adopt her.

Because FeLV is rare in the UAE, and also because Lucy Locket’s face is different from the Arabian Mau, her vets concluded that she was brought from another country. They don’t know when or how, but she ended up on Shaikh Zayed Road!

Lucy Locket is the ideal pet, a sweetheart and a ‘purring machine’, as her doctors describe her. She does not deserve to live the rest of her life in a small cage where they cannot cuddle her without their gloves. She deserves a home and a bigger space where she can enjoy her life!

Even though the doctors recommended that she be put to sleep, we don’t believe in that because she can live a happy life. All she needs is a home where she is the only cat. For more information about Lucy Locket, please contact Hind Almatrooshi on hindalmatroushi@gmail.com.
