Be more careful with children
The shocking news of two individuals falling to their deaths from highrise buildings in Sharjah has become a worrying concern for the authorities, as well as, the residents of the emirate (“Five-year-old among two who fall to death from Sharjah buildings”, Gulf News, October 26). It is heartbreaking that a five-year-old girl was amongst the victims. It is high time that parents and guardians learn a lesson to not leave their young ones unattended for even a fraction of a second as accidents can occur unexpectedly. Children should be kept away from balconies, doors, windows and other places such as the kitchen, especially near the stove where the chances of getting hurt are quite high. Also, construction workers must follow the safety guidelines while on duty. Those found in non-compliance of this law must be fined, along with their employers. My sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.

Such is life
Parents need to be careful when it comes to their children. This is a gift that if lost once, we cannot get it back. Such is life. My condolences to the family.

Negligence is responsible
When the temperature drops, people tend to keep the windows of their home open. And then they become careless about their children. I’m sorry about the loss of these precious lives, but it is a fact that parents need to be more careful. The negligence is responsible in such cases. May the deceased rest in peace.

Stop lecturing them
I am sure no one is sadder by the loss than the parents of the child and the family of the construction worker. So can we all please stop providing lectures and stop blaming the parents who must be going through unimaginable sorrow?

They’re a bigger responsibility
How many more accidents have to occur before parents come to realise that they have so much more responsibility bringing a child to this world than just feeding, clothing and educating them? They are children and they wouldn’t know better.

Safety first
The windows and balconies must have good fencing now. It’s high time that instead of having buildings with fancy exteriors and structures, we should have a safe and sound place to live. Life is more important than anything.

Creating memories
I remember the first time I travelled (“Meet the first passenger to fly Emirates”, Gulf News, October 25). I was five years old and it was in 1979. I was on a flight from Sanaa, Yemen, to Cairo, Egypt, and I remember the air hostesses were very late at serving a meal. The plane was dark and almost everyone was asleep. But, they woke up with me informing my father that I was hungry. As I was saying it in English, everyone understood and smiled. They were actually relieved because right after, food was served! It was the first time that I got to see the pyramids. Over the years, I have travelled to a lot of destinations around the world and each has been a memorable one.

The most memorable trip
On March 23, 1976, I travelled for the first time from Karachi, Pakistan to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This was the first time that I got a chance to perform Umrah. I was surprised as the person seated next to me turned out to be the Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah. We spoke about many different things and he was a nice and practical man. I learnt many things from him in a short time. Since then, I have travelled hundreds of times, but my first trip was the most memorable one.

Moving between countries
I remember my first trip was on November 29, 2012 when I moved to Dubai from Islamabad, Pakistan. It was a very exciting day and time of my life, and now I’m enjoying my busy life here in Dubai. However, I miss my family and lovely homeland all the time.
