Gulf News polled its online readers on whether they would opt for cosmetic surgery. Half of the respondents said that they would not change their bodies, whereas 36 per cent would only get cosmetic surgery if they needed it for health reasons.

The poll was based on the page A4 report, “‘Doctor, I want to look like Jennifer Lopez’”, published in the Nation section of Gulf News on April 27.

The report stated that around 10,000 patients underwent weight-loss surgeries or aesthetic procedures at the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital at Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) in 2014. Body shaping or contouring procedures topped the list, with liposuction taking the top spot with 51 per cent of the procedures last year.

The results of the poll on gulfnews.com do not support the figures released by the officials on the increase in cosmetic procedures over the past two years. Would you have cosmetic surgery? Tell us why at readers@gulfnews.com
