Deprived of card

In February, I applied for a Standard Chartered Titanium credit card. Even though my company is not listed with the bank, I was told that I can apply for the card because of my salary. I submitted all documents and after a few days, an agent came to my office. He came for field verification. He just asked my name and mobile number and left, even though I saw that he didn’t fill the rest of the form.

A few days after this so-called verification, I came to know that my application had been rejected due to field verification. When I asked the agent who called me for the rejection, she said the verification was not done. Despite filing a formal complaint on Standard Chartered’s website, no one has bothered to call, even though the website claimed that the complaint would be resolved within 24 hours.

If Standard Chartered has hired staff, who are not trained to do the job efficiently, why was it the reason for application rejection? I would like to know the grounds on which the application had been rejected. Despite reassurance that they would resolve the complaint within 24 hours, Standard Chartered has not bothered to even reply.

From Mr Vijay Tejwani

Dubai

The management of Standard Chartered responds:

Upon receiving the complaint, Standard Chartered Customer Care Unit contacted the client and informed him of the Bank’s policy, eligibility and terms and conditions of the credit card. The issue is considered closed from our end.

Mr Tejwani responds:

This is wrong information. They refused to put anything in writing about the reasons for rejection. On the contrary, they have asked me to re-submit the application because they knew that the field verification was not done properly from their end. I have re-submitted the application because they were insisting on it but if they refuse it again, I would like them to put the reasons for rejection in writing.

Editor’s note: The follow up letter was forwarded to Standard Chartered for further comments. Their representative states that the issue is considered closed from their end.
