Negative idea
Gulf News should be ashamed of itself, talking about killing sharks like it is a brave and courageous thing to do (“Meet the ‘Shark King’ of Oman”, Gulf News, June 3). Glorifying this act, which is destroying our world’s oceans, can only be a negative thing for these amazing creatures. I hope the Omani authorities step up and ban shark fishing sooner rather than later, before it’s too late.

Disgusting act
I’m very disappointed that Gulf News is reporting — and seemingly glorifying — this disgusting act. The quicker this barbaric trade is outlawed, the better for Oman and the UAE.

Senseless killing
Shark killing is a disgusting practice used to obtain their fins. Is Gulf News actually glorifying the senseless killing of these endangered creatures?

Gulf News reports on what is happening in our communities. That in no way is an indicator of us supporting the killing of sharks. The practice is legal in the country the report was from, and therefore it is a matter of opinion on the morality of the issue. The story stirs debate, and could hopefully lead to more awareness and pressure to protect sharks.
