Duba: A woman has been jailed for three months for using a friend’s Emirates ID when she was admitted to a hospital suffering stomach pains following a miscarriage.

The 31-year-old Russian woman, Z.J., was rushed to a hospital’s emergency ward when she had a miscarriage in April.

She used a friend’s ID in the hospital.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted Z.J. of using someone else’s Emirates ID card so she could be admitted to hospital after she pleaded guilty.

An Indian clerk at the hospital testified that when paramedics rushed the defendant to the emergency, she was registered under the name of T.G.

According to Monday’s ruling, presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat said the woman will be deported following the completion of her punishment.

When she defended herself in courtroom three, the Russian said her personal Emirates ID and other identification papers were stolen and some of them were lost.

“On that day I had severe pain and I needed to go to the hospital. T.G. called the ambulance and I grabbed her ID quickly and was rushed to hospital,” Z.J. said.

She told presiding judge Abdul Lat she had to do what she did because of the urgent situation.

“My papers were not with me… the pain was so severe and my friend is the one who called the ambulance. I just used her ID once and returned it immediately,” said the woman.

The clerk said the defendant had had a miscarriage and was admitted to hospital at 7am.

T.G., an Uzbek housewife, told prosecutors that she had only known Z.J. for a year as she had met her at a birthday party.

“One day I had a fight with my husband and went to stay at her place … I stayed with her for nearly four days, during which I believe that she took my Emirates ID from my purse. On that particular day, I did not find my ID in my purse but when I returned I found it again in my purse,” she claimed.

Monday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
