Umm Al Quwain: Four wild dogs attacked and killed around 20 sheep and goats after they invaded a livestock farm in Kaber area of Umm Al Quwain on Monday after midnight, the owner of the farm said on Wednesday.

Mohammad Jasem Khamis, the Emirati owner, said he received a call from the watchman in the farm early in the morning informing him that a group of wild dogs had killed the animals.

There were around 50 sheep and goats in the farm at the time of the attack, Khamis said. Some other animals sustained injuries.

The watchman, who was fast asleep, woke up after he heard strange sound, he said. He rushed to the farm and chased the dogs out of the farm.

The watchman managed to kill three dogs and the other one attacked the watchman before fleeing.

Khamis said that he informed the authorities concerned about the attack which caused him huge losses.

The cost of the dead animals is estimated at Dh30,000, Khamis said, and some of them were pregnant.

“The farm is located in Kaber area. Wild dogs live in the desert and often come down to attack animals at night,” he said, adding that similar incidents have taken place in the past in other livestock farms in the area.

“Dog bites were found on the bodies of the dead animals,” he added

A veterinarian also checked the injured animals and said they could die as they were bitten by the wild dogs.

The Emirati owner called on the authorities concerned to take action against wild animals to protect their livestock.

He requested them to take measures against the wild dogs since they pose a risk not only to animals but also to residents in the area.
