Superstar Rajinikanth turned 66 on Monday but there was no birthday bash for the Tamil actor on account of the death of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on December 5.

However, a host of leaders and celebrities — including Prime Minister Narendra Modi — wished him.

“Happy birthday @superstarrajini! Wishing you a long life filled with good health,” Modi tweeted.

“It is Rajnikant’s birthday on Dec 12th and we wish him greater glory happiness and good health [sic],” Amitabh Bachchan tweeted along with a picture of him with Rajinikanth.

“2 the coolest & greatest of em all. Wishing u health happiness & years of entertainment for us. Happy B’Day Thalaivaa [sic],” Shah Rukh Khan said.

Thalaivaa means boss in Tamil and is a word often used to refer to the actor.

Rajinikanth’s daughter, Soundarya, posted pictures of her with her father and tweeted: “To the greatest man I know my #Father #ILoveYou #HBDSuperstarRajinikanth.”.

Last week, the actor asked fans not to celebrate his birthday due to Jayalalithaa’s death.

He skipped birthday celebrations last year as well on account of the torrential rains that sparked floods in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallore districts.
