The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the General Women’s Union yesterday in the capital.

The move is aimed at enhancing cooperation in raising political awareness among Emirati women across the country.

“The ministry is keen to expand cooperation with social institutions within the UAE to ensure active participation from all segments of the society in the process of enhancing political awareness,” Tarek Hilal Lootah, undersecretary of Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, said.

“Empowering women politically by raising their awareness is a major priority for the ministry. In this respect, cooperation with the General Women’s Union is of added value.”

According to the MoU, the two sides will initiate a joint standing committee to implement, follow up and evaluate the outcomes of the activities, in addition to providing recommendations and suggestions to help achieve the MoU’s objectives.

“We are looking forward to [implementing] activities that would achieve the mission of the General Women’s Union,” Noora Khalifa Al Suwaidi, director-general of the General Women’s Union, said.
