New York: The UAE called on the UN Security Council to enhance international efforts in protecting civilians in areas of armed conflict such as Libya and Palestine.

This came during a statement made by Ahmad Abdullah Al Jarman, UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN, before the UN Security Council meeting that took place on Tuesday.

Al Jarman expressed the UAE’s concern on the harsh humanitarian conditions suffered by some of the area’s population due to the rapid changes recently witnessed in the region.

He stressed that the UAE supports the UN’s efforts to address the critical humanitarian situation of the Libyan people, including protecting civilians and ensuring the quick supply of relief aid and the safety of people working in the humanitarian field.

He added that the UAE backs the Libyan people’s legitimate aspirations within the framework of a comprehensive political process that allows them to determine their own future and achieve lasting peace.
