Abu Dhabi: After allegedly using a Saluki hunting dog to catch gazelles in a wildlife reserve, three Emirati men have been referred to court in Al Ain.

The defendants will be prosecuted according to the Federal law on environmental protection and development and the wildlife hunting law in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Public Prosecution investigations revealed that a report from a supervisor at the reserve notified authorities about the frequent presence of tire-tracks in the area. After close monitoring of the area, the offenders were found with their hunting dog in good condition even though their vehicle had overturned.

During interrogations, the suspects confessed to hunting and killing a gazelle while training their Saluki dog so they threw the prey in a rubbish bin. They added that they were apprehended while going back to the crime scene a second time to train their dog further.

The General Attorney warned residents against transgressing in protected areas, adding that doing so is a crime.
