Fujairah: Quick police work rescued a 25-year-old woman after she was physically dragged from a taxi early Thursday morning and abducted by two men, said police.

The Asian victim was travelling in a taxi shortly before 5am when two men entered the vehicle, accosted the woman and forced her into a nearby vehicle before driving away.

The taxi driver called Fujairah Police immediately and reported that his passenger was in serious trouble.

The woman put up a fight before she was taken away by the suspects, the taxi driver told the police.

During the scuffle with the two assailants, the woman screamed loudly, crying out for help and beating the men as they took her to their vehicle.

Police said the woman didn’t know her attackers.

Police collected details of the suspects from the taxi driver and launched a manhunt.

Within an hour, police located and arrested the duo in cooperation with Kalba Police.

The men were identified as Y.M.Sh., 31, and A.S.M., 31 — both are Gulf citizens. Neither have a criminal record, police said.

During interrogation, police said the suspects confessed.

The suspects were detained and the case has been referred to the Fujairah Public Prosecution.

Brigadier Humaid Mohammad Al Yamahi, Director of police operations, praised the police efforts in maintaining safety and security.

He also thanked the Criminal Investigations Department team which tracked and arrested the abductors in record time.
