Dubai: A supervisor will be jailed for three months after he lost his appeal in the case of beating his co-worker and causing him a permanent disability after brawling over an old dispute.

The 31-year-old Indian supervisor, M.H., beat his countryman, K.S., and caused him a three per cent permanent disability in Naif in January.

In May, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted K.S. of assaulting the victim and intentionally causing him the disability.

The defendant appealed his primary ruling and pleaded innocent when he defended himself before the Dubai Appeal Court.

“I did not beat him. He is the one who attacked me first and when he grabbed me by my shirt, I pushed him backwards and defended myself … I did not cause him the disability,” M.H. argued in court.

However, presiding judge Saeed Salem Bin Sarm rejected K.S.’s appeal and upheld the three-month imprisonment.

The 48-year-old claimant said he met the defendant and had a heated argument over a previous disagreement.

“He assaulted me and caused me an injury. I reported the matter to the police … then I was referred to Dubai Police’s forensic medicine to obtain a medical report pertaining to the injury that I had sustained,” he claimed to prosecutors.

The defendant was cited telling prosecutors that he beat up K.S.

The appellate ruling remains subject to appeal before the Cassation Court within 28 days.
