Dubai: The Consulate General of India in Dubai has helped secure wages and repatriation of stranded crew members of an Indian ship anchored in Ajman, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

Consulate officials intervened after the crew requested help in resolving the issue with the vessel owner.

The crew members included 11 Indians, two Myanmar nationals and a Nepali.

The settlement was reached after multiple meetings with company representatives that led to “a decisive personal meeting” with the company owner.

All crew members have been paid their pending dues and seven Indians who wanted to return home have been signed off.

Meanwhile, four Indians who are willing to continue will stay on board the ship. All crew members have thanked the consulate for the assistance.

More details were not available in the statement on Tuesday.

There have been a number of cases of stranded crew in the past years.

Earlier this year, a standoff between the owner and crew of two Indian vessels stranded near Dubai’s coast was resolved after maritime officials intervened.
