Dubai: The Spinneys Cup, the region's only one-day event, will be held at the Desert Palm Polo Club on Friday.

The third year of this highly successful tournament will see riders of all levels and abilities compete against each other, and the expertly designed course, at the region's only complete horse trials, encompassing tests of dressage, show jumping and cross country.

Last year's competition broke all records in terms of prize money, competitors and spectators, when 70 riders of all nationalities and levels competed for the coveted Cup, which was finally presented by the event's host, Ali Al Bwardy, to Christina Calin from the Zabeel Racing Barn for her results.

Organisers are confident that 2007 will be another record year with entries for both junior and senior classes already streaming in, and interest being received from international riders.

"The Desert Palm Horse Trials and the Spinneys Cup are part of an initiative to build the sport of eventing within the region so as to ensure representation at international events in the future," explained event organiser Jo Ivimey.

Entries for the event have now closed but anyone with an interest in the world of eventing is being encouraged to come and assist the organisers in the stewarding and marshalling of the event.

Spectators are also welcome to attend and the full day's takings will be donated to the Riding for the Disabled Association of Dubai (RDAD).
