Dubai: Cycling enthusiasts continued their preparations for this year’s Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge by turning out in their hundreds for the second of four build-up rides on Friday ahead of the big day on December 12.

Numbers were up on the first build-up ride as close to 500 cyclists took on the 45-km event at the Nad Al Sheba cycle track.

The Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge started in 2010 and now attracts cyclists from all over the world. This year more than 2,000 are expected to enter.

“The build-up rides are a great way to prepare for the event as they are a great way to test your fitness and to practice riding in a group. The wonderful community atmosphere also motivates people to train for the event,” organisers said.

“The event and the build-up rides are all about promoting cycling in Dubai and giving people a safe and supportive environment to enjoy cycling.”

The build-up rides increase in distance each time in preparation for the full 92km race. The next two build-up rides will be held at the Dubai Cycling Course, with the third ride on October 31 on a 65km course and the final one on November 28 over 85km.

Details of the next build-up ride and the main event are on the Facebook page ‘Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge’.
