Abu Dhabi: Next Friday GCC drivers will be honoured with their own day at Yas Marina Circuit.

Billed as "Local Champions", the event is a new addition to the 2011 calendar and brings together two of the leading Middle East race series: the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East and the GCC Radical Challenge, putting the spotlight on local drivers.

The day-long event will give fans the chance to see some of the region's top drivers including UAE Nationals Juma Al Dhari and Khalid Al Qubaisi, Bahraini Shaikh Salman Bin Rashid Al Khalifa, and Saudi Prince Abdul Aziz Al Faisal.

"We are proud to host an event dedicated to our local and regional drivers," said Malek Al Rashidi, Senior Director of Yas Marina Circuit. "They are the bedrock of motorsport in the GCC and the foundation for its future growth. We at Yas are committed to fostering and promoting local talent whenever possible. This focus on Local Champions is an excellent way to bring our circuit racing season to a close."

Currently in third position on the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East ladder, Abu Dhabi's own Khalid Al Qubaisi will be challenging on his home circuit against current championship leader Shaikh Salman Bin Rashid Al Khalifa.

Saud Bin Turki will be battling to stay on top of the SR8 class in the GCC Radical Challenge ladder in order to win the series. Saudi Falcons team leads the 1500cc class with both Bandar Alireza and Raed Abu Zinadh with 75 and 62 points respectively.
