Dubai: The 23rd Sharp Cosmos UAE Open Snooker Championship brought a convincing win to the palette of Pakistan's very own Ali Haider.

A genius when it comes to his first occupation, accounting, Haider did himself proud with a very comprehensive victory of UAE's Abdullah Al Huraiz.

Allowing his opponent only two points in the first frame, Haider extended his scoring even further in the next frame to register an aggregate points total of 180-44.

Haider said: "I feel I may do better in this event than in previous tournaments. I am also enjoying practice with sparring partner Matthew Thomas."

Top junior performance of the day came from Mohammad Bin Mijrin, current UAE Interschool Sports Association Champion in both snooker and billiard. In rejoicing over his solid 3-0 win over fellow junior Haitham Saleh, the positive Bin Mijrin said: "I made a 37 break and enjoyed every single shot of the match. I just did my best on every shot, stayed down and even though I won I still remember all the mistakes I made and areas to improve next time." A trio of whitewashes was complete with Riley table technician Shabbir Hussain cruising to a 3-0 win over Ahmad Jasem Al Rais.
