Dubai: The UAE national football team coach has hoped that the pride of wearing the national colours will encourage youngsters towards setting higher goals in other sports as well.

“There can be nothing bigger than wearing the national team colours and I hope these youngsters can be inspired to higher dreams in their chosen sport,” Mahdi Ali told Gulf News while attending the final of the 2nd CBD Youth Athletics Championships at the Dubai Police Officers Club on Saturday.

“Sport is a good lesson for life. I can only hope that these children can continue challenging themselves to higher achievements and one day make their country proud by wearing the national team colours.”

The coach also hailed the initiative from Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) in hosting the CBD Youth Athletics Championships in an attempt to identify talent in track and field in Dubai schools.

“Besides the benefits that are there in sports, it also helps in giving kids a chance to compete and aspire to be champions of the future,” Ali said.
