Dubai: The organising committee of the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup 2007 yesterday unveiled the logo for the competition to be hosted in Abu Dhabi early next year.

The unveiling of the logo was done at a press conference in the capital yesterday with Tournament Director Mohammad Khalfan Al Rumaithi and Chairman of the Media Committee Mohammad Al Mahmoud in attendance.

"We are very proud and excited to host the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup in the UAE once again," said Al Rumaithi.

"In the past the UAE has successfully revolutionised the concept of hosting competitions. We have organised the Arabian Gulf Cups in 1982 and 1994, and we are confident we will raise the bar in all aspects as a sporting destination this time too," he added.

"Every international event needs a prominent identity as it is a strategic asset and a symbol that remains memorable in everyone's minds," Al Rumaithi said.

"The hosting of such an important competition like the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup gives the organising committee the opportunity to develop the image that will position the competition among the top events on the world's sporting calendar."

The logo is a symbol designed to reflect a falcon, the Arabic number seven that represents the seven Gulf States, and the ball representing sports that will be played.

The UAE is reflected in the colours of the logo, which are the colours of the UAE flag.

"We now look forward to welcoming the games to the UAE to enhance the relationship among the Gulf States," Al Rumaithi said.
