Dubai: More than 40 young Brazilian athletes have arrived in Dubai to begin final training for the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

They will spend a week in various training facilities to hone their skills in athletics, fencing, boxing, swimming, basketball, shooting, sailing, modern pentathlon, triathlon and judo. The visit comes out of discussions during the SportAccord Convention, held in Dubai this year.

Unique experience

Officials of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) met with representatives of the Brazilian Olympic Committee in June to plan the visit.

"We are delighted to host these young athletes and we look forward to sharing our world-class training facilities with them," said Dr Ahmad Al Sharif, Secretary General of DSC.

"We hope their week of preparation helps them achieve success in the Games, [also] we hope it provides them with a unique and exciting cultural experience here in Dubai."

DSC has arranged for the athletes to train at Al Wasl Club, Al Nasr Club, Dubai International Marine Club, Dubai Police Officer's Club, Dubai Police Academy and Al Mamzar Beach.
