Sharjah: Sharjah Police have arrestedf two people on charges of stealing and smuggling cars from the UAE to Iran.

The two Iranian suspects, according to the police, allegedly stole cars to smuggle them to Iran under fake registration certificates.

A police investigation revealed that the gang targeted cars mostly in the Sharjah industrial area and the used car showrooms in the emirate.

A special police team was formed after a number of complaints received at Al Buhairah and the Industrial Area police stations about car thefts in the area. The team, after a thorough hunt, managed to arrest two suspects on charges of stealing and smuggling cars.

The suspect confessed to the crime and they were referred to the Public Prosecution in Sharjah for further trial.

Sharjah Police have warned car repair garages not to repair any vehicles without official papers to ensure the identity of the vehicle owner to avoid any legal action against them.

The warning came after the police found out that some stolen vehicles were used in crimes and sometime were involved into accidents. These vehicles are also taken for repairs to hide any traces of accidents.

The police also called on owners of vehicles to prevent such thefts by not leaving their vehicles with the engine running and to lock them properly.
