Dubai: The newest name in the wearable technology market could be Saint Honore.

The Swiss brand, best known for its luxury watches, is considering creating wearable electronic devices, joining watchmakers like Swatch, Timex and Fossil that have turned to smartwatches, according to the company’s president, Thierry Fresard.

In an interview in Dubai on Tuesday, he said that the company would launch the devices in the UAE.

“We would take them to the UAE-- it is one of the biggest markets for us,” he said.

He said that entering the wearable devices market would help the company expand its market share.

Saint Honore sells watches priced between Dh 2,500 and Dh 6,000, but some can go up to Dh 10,000, according to Fresard.

Analysts say there is a big potential for the wearable devices market. Credit Suisse expects the market for wearable electronics to be valued at $50 billion by 2017.

Saint Honore’s potential move into the wearable technology market would be supported by “the very high rate of early adoption for new technology by consumers here in the UAE and the overall broad desire for mobile technology,” said Colin Beaton, managing director of retail consultancy Limelight Creative Services.
