Ras Al Khaimah: Ras Al Khaimah Police on Thursday introduced a new device to catch speeding and reckless motorists in the emirate.

The US-made radar gun ‘TruCAM’ is considered a first of its kind and the most sophisticated speed enforcement tool available today.

The TruCAM can scan all vehicles, heavy and light, moving over a wide distance of four to six lanes at the same time. It can record a number of different violations at the same time.

The TruCAM collects and stores a complete chain of video evidence for both speeding and tailgating violations, along with a high-resolution image that identifies vehicle make, model and licence plate number.

More than acting as a speed enforcement laser and video camera, the data it produces can feed into any Geographic Information System (GIS) framework.

The aim of using the new digital radar gun is to catch speeding vehicles and to reduce fatal accidents, said Colonel Ali Saeed Elkum, Director of Traffic and Patrol Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police.

By utilising GPS, it automatically generates location-based information every time the TruCAM is used, he added. “This provides historical data to determine why, where, when and how to deploy valuable human and capital assets in the future.”
