Rahul Dholakia’s upcoming film Raaes, starring Shah Rukh Khan, is about bootlegging in the Indian state of Gujarat, but does not have a controversial story line.

“There is nothing in the film that will invite backlash. Once you watch the film you will get absorbed in the world of Raees. There is nothing like that to be afraid of in the film. There is nothing against anyone,” Dholakia said.

The action-drama features Khan as the bootlegger Raees, whose business is challenged and eventually thwarted by a police officer, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

The Parzania director took two years to make Raaes.

“I think there are challenges in every film, especially when it is an original subject, so everywhere you have to fictionalise. It’s not that we have copied from somewhere,” Dholakia said.

Also starring Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and produced by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Gauri Khan, Raaes will open in UAE theatres on January 26.
