A recent American study claimed that the happier you are as a teenager, the more likely you are to earn more as an adult.

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences looked at the ability of teenagers to express positive emotions in school and returned to find out their financial situation 10 years later. The findings? The happiest of the lot earned up to $8,000 (Dh29,380) more than their pessimistic counterparts.

This week, we put this finding to debate. Here are the statements that will be raised:

• Happier people are more likely to be rich.
• People who constantly smile are considered pushovers.
• Problem solving is easier when you have a serious disposition.
• Happiness cannot be taught, it is a natural instinct.

I dont agree with this point of view, sometimes happier kids turn to rich due to rare reasons for example child participating in lucky draws, school scholarships, differnt programs & events finally they win & will turn out as rich. it is nothing but luck they may turn to rich. nowadays without studies nothing is going out to work in real world, as far as kids are concerned they are small, so they dont earn without work. child labour is one of the case differnt from this subject, which is against fundamental rules & which is restricted in different countries. in that case some may become rich through illegal work like child labour etc.

I strongly believe that happiness is within us. We just need to have gratitude for what we have in our life be it relationship, career or money. Practicing gratitude will give eternal peace and happiness which is the mantra of good life.

I agree with the statement. Happier kids can become richer than others because they radiate positive energy around them which helps get their things done quicker and better. Most of the time, as observed by many, happier and peacefully calm people make better decisions. If a child has had a sad past, it doesn't necessarily mean he was a pessimistic person, he could have been optimistic towards life. Basically, everything depends on your approach towards life. By just being happy all the time doesn't necessarily mean you will become rich one day. An equal amount of determination, dedication and hard work has to be put in to taste the sweet fruit of success.

I dont full agree with "happier kids are more likely to become rich". How about Tom Cruise ,Lindsay Lohan,Michael Jackson, Steve Jobs who all had troubled and sad childhood but due to their sheer hard work , determination , power of vision they became very successful and rich. Also "people who constantly smile are considered pushovers" is not true according to me. Smiling people spread positive energy around , they can get 100 things done with their smile , they are strong people who do not show their difficult times on face by always smiling . Infact SMILE is the only curve which can set all things straight.

I dont agree with the first statement "Happier people are likely to be rich". We have e.gs like Steve Jobs who was not happy as teenager or infact in his first few jobs till he was hired by Apple. But ultimately due to his sheer hard work, vision and ability to understand market needs made him rich, famous and successful. 2nd statement :"People who smile are considered pushovers". Not true. People who smile infact spread +tive energy, they cannot be easy targets. They possess positive energy, may have ability to take strong decision, to withstand any odd circumstances. Infact Smile is the only one such curve which can set all other things straight and Yes Happiness cannot be taught, this is one's attitude of being happy in whatever one has.

I dont agree with this statement that happier people earn more money, how being happy and getting richer is connected? For example Michael Jackson a famous, filthy rich entertainer had a very unhappy and sad childhood but later he became billionaire. I agree that happy people are positive and with this energy, they can try to get what they want. We all like happy and smily persons not people who are always at frawn. But this also can be possible that due to a sad and disappointing childhood someone, can be very rich today as he or she was longing for this, thus they work harder. I will not say that money is everything but if you are rich the chances are more that you have a happy person as you can have whatever you want in life. You dont have to sulk for lifes big and small demands. However this is also true that happiness cannot be taught, there are some people who are happy from inside and love to live happily with small money and facility. On the other hand you can find people who are always complaining, sad and miserable but I guess its a choice to be happy or to be sorry all the time. You can always make friend and people smile with your happiness or you can make other also feel disappointing by your negative or sad attitude.

i agree to the first statement but strongly disagree with the second statement. your smile doesnt mean that you are not strong in decisions . You can never be easily pushed over only because you smile at others. The decision making has nothing to do with smiles. I strongly believe that a smile from heart can cure most of your diseases. A good smile delivers a positive stroke your internal organs which in turn remove all you toxins easily out of your body. it is true that push overs usually smiles, but the vice versa in not true.you cannot judge that all smilers are push overs. Decision making is an art which is gained through experience and not by mere education. I have seen Phd holders confused with simple decision making .There are lot of illeterate or little educated people who takes decision in milli seconds.
