The world looks on

I find it more than a little disturbing to hear that the US is once again funnelling money into Israel but doing so with full knowledge that they are fuelling Israel’s path of destruction (‘The mood in the US is changing,’ Gulf News, July 31). It’s sickening. I saw some photos of the victims of the UN school bombing and as a physician, I knew their death toll had not finished rising since some of the injuries I saw are of the type where only a small percentage of the victims have a chance of recovering. And even then, that would be with the support of a top notch burn unit, surgical suite and isolation unit.

Are there not provisions in the Geneva conventions - the three Geneva amendment protocols of 1949, 1977 and 2005 - and the Hague conventions for dealing with this conflict? Israel has broken so many of them as the world looks on and does nothing.

Additionally, the US has been giving them money to continue to do so. You would think of all nations, Israel could relate and feel some compassion for innocents being hurt. May God help us all. Above all, Lord, your protection around the innocents in Gaza, who have done nothing to deserve what is being done to them, is needed. God bless all.

Need for action

This issue is not new. Humanitarian ground aid is given and many peace talks are held but no final results. The only solution left is to act against Israeli aggression. If you want peace, then it should be done in the field, not on the table.

Enough is enough

So many wars have been fought since 1947-1948. Some lost, some won and others gave up their arms but the Israeli-Palestinian war is something that is never ending. The international community must wake up from its deep slumber and take proper and firm action now.

I do not believe that the Palestinian people have received justice. Humanitarian aid and peace talks are not sufficient. By blocking and isolating Palestinians, the world made Israel much stronger. The UN needs to review its policies towards the people of Palestine. If Israel can get all the sophisticated weapons and training, why can’t the Palestinians as well?

It is Israel who robbed the lands of Palestinians not vice versa. So it should be the Palestinians who really need the support to fight back. We need to help the people of Gaza with the latest equipment so they can stand up and fight against the aggression of the Zionist regime.

So many lives have been lost ever since the war broke and more and more are dying even at this very moment. It is high time, that the international community takes some stern action against Israel.

No fear

Food and money are good provisions for floods and earthquakes. Gaza and the Palestinians need military support from the Arab countries. Why is no military support being extended to them? Even though there is American support, we cannot fear them.

How can this happen?

Why can’t people learn from history? Horrible things have happened to the Jews in the past. How can this happen from people who know what it is like to be persecuted? Shot, bombed, hunted, having homes destroyed and loved ones killed. When will someone step in and stop the madness? When will mankind learn to spread love and gratitude rather than bullets and bombs?

Voice against terror

I firmly believe that warfare will not lead to a peaceful solution. Foreign aid to Gaza should be materialised by humanitarian support and encouraged with peaceful talks. The international community has to come to reconcile major issues in the region. Providing military aid will be as good as adding fuel to fire.

Serious measures have to be taken without wasting time anymore. Innocent women and children are being killed without reason. All human beings need to emphasise the grave situation and raise their voice against the terror.

Social media brings truth

People have now switched to instantaneous media updates on social networks available on their mobile devices such as smart phones or tablets to seek out the truth. Israel is losing popularity day by day. Keep calm and share the truth on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Outlook from Americans

Although Israel is an ally of the US, we forget that governmental decisions have an impact, including sanctions. I see it as a crisis that is getting out of hand for the desire of control throughout the region.

To tell you the truth, if anyone knows anything about American people, half of us are very selective in how we choose to live our lives. Many hear the news and although it may be in the back of the mind when and if the subject comes up, many do not even think of it in daily life. I’m not sure how the younger generations view it with such great access to world information, but I know many from my generation see it as worlds away, which we cannot affect.

As far as blocking it out of our daily conversations, it’s not just because we are seen as superficial, although many are with lifestyle choices, but many focus on other things. I try to teach my children what the world’s actions are and how it impacts other countries and the US as well as what possible outcomes could be for the future.

Racism in India

The comment by Archisman Dinda on racism in India seems to be making a mountain out of molehill (‘There is no escaping racism in India,’ Gulf News, July 31). Apart from the type of problems pointed out by the writer, India has many other problems like communalism, poverty and lack of education. However, there has been progress made by India in the past 15 to 20 years. The world should appreciate the achievement in minimising these problems and achieving substantial progress in various fields.

I would like to know from the writer, which country does not have problems of racism in one way or another?

It’s high time we look into the solutions for terrorism and wars going on in Gaza, Iraq and Pakistan, where innocent citizens and children are being killed. Compared to these major problems, the racism issues in India given by the author appear to be minuscule.

Cultures teach brotherhood

Every nation, every province, every town, on this Earth has its own culture. The traditions and lifestyle as well as the wisdom and moral code of conduct of the people living in every nook and corner, have a great role to play in creating a better tomorrow.

Men often have misunderstandings between each of their respective cultures and traditions, which often leads to strife. But, if these cultures are understood well, it will lead to a better tomorrow.

I believe that my culture forms the basic foundation on which I build my life using all the intellectual thoughts and facts that I have gained in my life. Wherever I live, wherever I am brought up, whosoever are my friends, I can never live without this culture, which my country has granted me through my parents.

My culture teaches me to meet everybody with a smile. Nobody can deny the fact that a smile can brighten up your day and your neighbour’s. Mother Teresa rightly said: “Peace begins with a smile.”
