A surge in feedback during the past few days from motorists has kept the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) busy. In their inputs, most consumers have complained about the frustration over glitches that affect the mParking systems, which are distributed across Dubai. Failure to renew a parking ticket can lead to hefty fines for vehicle owners, but conversely, it does not help when motorists struggle to pay parking fees, through their cell phones, thanks to a malfunctioning system. The consumer, in this case, must find redressal from the authorities.

Last week’s glitches were attributed to a telecom-related problem — an excess of parking requests via SMS had jammed telecom lines. However, the RTA, to its credit, has responded positively by stating that those inconvenienced, or fined, would receive a refund or feedback. Constant enhancement and introduction of new facilities is an important tool to gauge and ensure customer satisfaction. The RTA is proactive in this regard. Multiple options for parking fees have been introduced. Customer satisfaction and product reliability are essential features of any commercial relationship.
