Those who still doubt the death of Osama Bin Laden, the conspiracy theorists will not change their mind no matter what indisputable evidence is presented to them. There are many in this region who still believe former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain is alive. Others in the United States are waiting for the return of Elvis Presley.

Nevertheless, the US administration must release pictures of Bin Laden to put to rest once and for all the raging debate on whether the Al Qaida leader has been killed or is still alive.

In focus: Osama Bin Laden

The White House says it has images of Bin Laden, taken during the midnight raid, at the hangar in Afghanistan where the body was taken and prepared for burial and on board the ship just before it was dumped into the sea. An official said the pictures are "so gruesome they could be inflammatory" if they are released. Others suggested that the US is intentionally being ambiguous about this.

Both arguments are wrong.

The US must release those images to ensure that the case is put to rest and to prove, with undeniable evidence, that perpetrators of terrorism cannot get away with murder.

Secondly, in a region where mythology is rife, it is essential to wipe out any speculation.
