According to data released by the Ministry of Education, 105 out of 277 public schools inspected during the 2013-14 academic year are to receive academic accreditation.

It said the schools will receive the accreditation after meeting the standards set by the ministry under the directives of Minister of Education Hussain Bin Ebrahim Al Hammadi.

According to Jameela Al Muhairi, Director of the Public Schools Guidance and Monitoring Department at the ministry, 277 public schools out of 417 schools were inspected, with 38 per cent of those meeting the ministry’s standards.

Jameela said the schools inspected that did not meet standards have been put into three categories and will be inspected again. And rightly so. The reality is that 38 per cent represents a failing grade overall in anybody’s book. And if this Ministry of Education report was the result for a student, the report card would come with a teacher’s comment: “Needs to apply to the task at hand, needs to work harder, needs to follow direction, needs to improve.”
