The UAE’s Al Bayan spoke about the use of banned dense inert metal explosives (DIME) by Israel, describing the act as a crime against humanity.

“Israel is once again practicing its policy of expanding its acts of aggression against the Palestinian people by using internationally banned weapons, as the world bore witness. Israel is re-enacting scenes from 2008 when it launched white phosphorus bombs on homes, and health and educational institutions in the Gaza Strip,” said the editorial.

Israel, however, couldn’t care less that the world knew of such atrocities, and was satisfied with calling on people in north Gaza to evacuate their homes. This led to families abandoning their homes, towards the unknown, due to a lack of safe areas that can serve as a shelter in the Gaza Strip.

“Despite the rising death toll, the United Nations just expressed its concern over ‘civilian casualties in the war’,” continued the editorial. “A new tragedy for Palestinians in the Occupied Territories during Ramadan, as the world watches and is content with reporting on the issue through the TV and radio channels, and social networking websites.”

Wreak havoc

The Oman Tribune said that the Palestinian resistance fighters surely will not be sitting ducks for the Israeli military. With enough powerful rockets in their arsenal, about which the Israelis have enough knowledge, they will surely wreak havoc within the borders of the Zionist entity, said the paper’s editorial.

The tumultuous and bloody events in Gaza were expected. The collapse of the Middle East peace process, due to Israeli belligerence, had caused a lot of frustration among the Palestinians. Most pragmatic Palestinians have lost all hope of being free of the Israeli yoke soon. This hopeless situation was bound to cause some kind of a violent reaction. But now the situation is fast spiralling out of control, threatening to turn the region, already roiled by the fighting in Iraq and Syria, into a vast killing field. The onus is on Netanyahu. On him depends war or peace, concluded the editorial.

Concept of ‘equality’

The Jordan Times questioned the US’s capability to broker a ceasefire between Palestine and Israel when it obviously sides with Israel. The editorial read: “The US President Barack Obama has offered to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza with a view to reactivating the November 2012 truce between the two sides, but without spelling out the basis for this initiative.”

Saudi Arabia’s Al Watan said in its editorial that the UN Security Council’s call for a ceasefire between the Israelis and Palestinians, its deep concern for the safety of civilians on both sides and demands to respect international humanitarian laws implies equality between Israel and Palestine, but the truth is that one party is doing the bombing, the other is being bombed. It added that the UN’s statement will not protect innocent civilians from the destructive Israeli war machine, as the statement does not oblige Israel to do anything.
