2001 - Al Ain’s Dh45 million Al Jimi Shopping Centre was opened by Shaikh Tahnoun Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Province and Vice-Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. “The centre plays a critical role in our ambitions to develop Al Ain into the premier Garden City of the Middle East and a prime tourist attraction,” said Shaikh Tahnoun. The facility, which took just over a year to build, replaces the Al Khabisi fruit and vegetable market. Already more than 95 per cent of the 46,000 square metre centre has been leased, said Philip Haddad, managing director of developer Addar Real Estate Services. The centre, promoted as “a shopping oasis in the heart of Al Ain”, is expected to attract more visitors to the city.
