Politicians in Denmark have introduced the world's first fat tax. Under the scheme, consumers will pay more for foods that are bad for your health — butter, milk products, pizzas, oils and pre-cooked foods. But this measure is tipping the scales toward absurdity.

While there's no arguing that fat people cost the health system more, there needs to be some fairness. After all, why should "normal" people pay for the gains of others?

Better to introduce the tax on body mass or the size of your belt. Or give tax breaks on gym memberships or athletic club memberships. The incentive should be to cut fat — not trim the wallets of all. Where will it all end — tax on the amount of air you breathe? This fat tax is the thin end of the wedge.
