The upcoming conference in Egypt on stabilising Iraq should aim at practical solutions as Iraq is hovering on the brink of disintegration.

With major powers attending, talks are crucial. This is especially so with the US and Iran as they play a critical role in the affairs of Iraq. "I think it's important, it would be a major breakthrough and any reduction in tensions will positively impact the situation in Iraq. We don't want Iraq to be a battleground for settling scores on other agendas at our cost. Really, this has been harming us, damaging us a lot," said Iraq's Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari.

Iraq's failed state of affairs would grant the continuation of disorder and the threat of sectarianism and violence spilling beyond its borders. This is a consequence that is shouldered by all those concerned and involved in the country's affairs.
