As if we had to wait for a notorious neoconservative to come and tell us that the US invasion (and occupation) of Iraq has been seriously mismanaged by the US. Former Pentagon official Douglas Feith has written a book saying just that, and attacking former secretary of state Colin Powell and the CIA.

His book War and Decision is interesting in that it is the first insider account of Pentagon decision-making. Feith blames officials outside the Pentagon for making the wrong decisions in post-invasion Iraq, while defending his former boss, Donald Rumsfeld.

Feith himself is a controversial figure and a key architect of the war. Undoubtedly, as a leading member of the neocon cabal, Feith's book could provide a historical record of the war. However, his views provide one version of reality and should be taken with a fistful of salt.
