CCTV footage has emerged of a man apparently caught stealing a motorbike before being beaten with his own hard hat.

The video, uploaded to YouTube by user Luis Brendon, captures the whole two-and-a-half minute episode from the streets of Thailand.

The video begins with a man (circled) innocently trying to start what appears to be his own motorbike, parked alongside others in a bike bay.

As he wheels the bike backwards, it appears to be the type of scene no-doubt captured on this specific camera hundreds of times a day.

The man sits on the bike and prepares to ride away...

...but as he does so, a second man (circled) comes running from off camera straight at the motorbike.

The second man launches himself as the first, as it becomes apparent we are watching a bike robbery in progress.

The thief is barged from the bike, which slides forward, with the pair now grappling each-other on the ground.

Soon a third man approaches...

... and joins the second man as both start beating the apparent thief on the ground.

As the video continues, three men are seen holding the man down and beating him.

One of the men takes off the thief’s hard hat and beats him with it.

The video goes on for another 90 seconds, as the thief is held down presumably while the police are called.
