Islamabad: An anti-terrorist court on Saturday disposed of an application filed by Sehba Musharraf, wife of former president General Pervez Musharraf, against the confiscation and freezing of her husband’s properties and bank accounts in the Benazir Bhutto murder case.

As the petitioner’s lawyer did not present the record of proof of her income deposited in the couple’s joint bank accounts, the court maintained its previous decision to seize the former ruler’s assets.

The court, based in Rawalpindi, had declared Musharraf a fugitive in August 2011 and had ordered his assets to be frozen for failing to comply with the court’s summons to appear before it.

The decision on Sehba’s pending application came a day after Musharraf announced in Dubai that he would return to Pakistan within a week after induction of a caretaker government to mobilise public support for his party, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), in the general elections expected in May.

The present coalition government led by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will cede power after midnight between March 16 and 17 and a caretaker setup will assume control, Federal Religious Affairs Minister Syed Khurshid Shah told the media.
