Al Ain Strong: Shamal (north-westerly) winds have entered the country's western region following the season's hottest day on Friday. A marked fall in temperature is expected.

The cool north-westerly winds were blowing at a speed of 50 km/h in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi at around 2pm on Saturday.

Forecasters said the winds will gradually move towards the rest of the country. They will, however, blow up dust and sand in open land areas, leading to poor visibility.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said an extension of low pressure from over eastern Saudi Arabia had an influence over the UAE for the last several days.

This pushed in hot and dusty winds, raising the temperature to 37 degrees Celsius in some internal areas.

The conditions changed on Saturday under the influence of a persistent low pressure over the north and east of Iran and an extension of high pressure coming from the northwest (northern and central Saudi Arabia).

"This system will cause a fresh north-westerly wind flow, becoming strong at times, especially over the sea and the western region," the NCMS said.

The development is expected to make Arabian Gulf waters rough to very rough, with a remarkable drop in temperatures across the UAE.

Asthma patients warned

The NCMS has advised motorists to take precautions on roads due to the expected poor horizontal visibility. People suffering from asthma must avoid exposure to dust.

The centre also warned of sea clubbing due to severe disturbance starting from Saturday morning up to noon Tuesday.
